Privacy Policy

PortfolioLens has no account and no ad tracking. What you own stays on your iPhone.

The short version

  • Never leaves your phone: your share counts, what you paid, your alert thresholds, your portfolio's value.
  • Does leave, because it has to: the ticker symbols you follow — a price cannot be fetched without asking for it by name.
  • Leaves unless you turn it off: usage data — which screens you open, never what is in them. On by default, switched off in Settings › Usage Data.
  • Leaves only when you send it: whatever you type into the feedback form.
  • Nobody else sees any of it. No analytics company, no advertiser, no data broker. Nothing is sold or shared.

Your portfolio stays on your device

Your share counts, what you paid and when, and your alert thresholds are stored only on your iPhone and paired Apple Watch, and are never sent anywhere. The symbols themselves have to be asked for — see below. There is no account any of it could be attached to, and deleting the app deletes it.

The Apple Watch app gets your portfolio from your iPhone directly over Apple's pairing, not through a server. It asks the same backend for prices, and it cannot add or change anything.

If you have iPhone Backup turned on, your app data is part of that backup on Apple's servers, under Apple's keys. That is Apple's storage, not the developer's.

Price alerts are generated on your device — no push service is involved. AI-written text in the app comes from the backend, built from public market data: nothing specific to you is sent to the model.

What the app sends to get you prices

To show a price, the app has to ask for it. Requests carry the ticker symbols you follow, hold, or have an alert on, and a search term when you search. They never carry your share counts, cost basis, purchase dates, portfolio value, or alert thresholds. Because alerts are checked in the background, that same list may be sent while the app is closed — switching off Background App Refresh in iOS Settings stops that.

Requests also carry a device attestation token, proving they come from a genuine copy of the app rather than a script. It identifies the app, not you, and a reinstall makes a new one; a key for your device is kept for 180 days after you last use the app.

Your IP address is visible in transit, as with any internet request. It is used to limit abuse and is not stored with your usage records or your feedback.

Usage data

The app can send a record of how it is used to the developer's own backend, to find out which screens matter and whether things are working. No analytics company is involved. It is on by default, and you can turn it off — during setup, or at any time in Settings › Usage Data. Switching it off stops collection immediately and deletes the identifier below.

What it includes: which screens you open and roughly how long for, how many sessions you have, whether searches and requests succeed, which features you reach, and roughly how large your watchlist and portfolio are.

Times and counts are sent as ranges, never exact numbers — a screen you spent 47 seconds on is reported as "under a minute."

What it never includes:

  • No ticker symbol — not one you watch, hold, search for, or set an alert on
  • No share counts, cost basis, purchase dates, prices, portfolio value, or gains and losses
  • No name, email address, or account — there is no account to have
  • No advertising identifier, and nothing any other app or website can also see
  • Nothing you type

The identifier

Usage data carries a random identifier your device makes up on first use — not your Apple Account, and not your advertising identifier. Switching Usage Data off deletes it; switching it back on makes a new one.

Deleting the identifier does not delete what was already sent. Usage records are kept for about 90 days and then removed automatically. Turning the setting off stops anything further; it is not an erasure request.

Feedback you send

If you use Settings › Send Feedback, the app sends exactly what you type, plus the category you pick, the app version, your OS version, and whether you are on iPhone or Apple Watch.

It carries a separate identifier for that one message, not the usage one, so what you write cannot be tied to what you did. Messages are deleted after 90 days.

Subscriptions

PortfolioLens Pro is sold through Apple. Payment details are handled entirely by Apple and are never seen by the developer; Apple's own privacy policy governs that transaction.

Your rights

Symbols are processed to provide the service you asked for; the device token to prevent abuse; usage data with your consent, which you can withdraw in Settings.

You have rights of access, correction, erasure and objection. Because there is no account, a record usually cannot be linked to you — and where you cannot be identified, those rights do not apply. Switching off Usage Data is the control available to you, and you may complain to your data-protection authority.

Data is processed outside the EEA and the UK, including in India where the developer is based, under Standard Contractual Clauses. Nothing here tracks you across websites or over time, so Do Not Track signals do not apply.

This website

This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads nothing from anyone else — the typefaces are served from here. Its host keeps standard server logs.

Changes to this policy

When something about what the app sends or stores changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated.
